{"id":8806,"date":"2025-05-22T11:17:20","date_gmt":"2025-05-22T15:17:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/facts\/?page_id=8806"},"modified":"2025-05-22T11:41:13","modified_gmt":"2025-05-22T15:41:13","slug":"hospitality-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/facts\/glossary\/h\/hospitality-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Hospitality"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/secretariat\/policies\/\">\u2018Hospitality and Working Meal Expenses\u2019 policy<\/a> governs what 杏吧原创 University will pay or reimburse for hospitality and working meal expenses incurred directly for University business and research purposes.<\/p>\n<p>The maximum allowable expenditure for both hospitality and working meals is determined by the University\u2019s per <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/facts\/glossary\/p\/per-diems\/\">diem rates<\/a>. The University\u2019s per diem rates are updated to match the National Joint Council each year on July 1<sup>st<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hospitality\/Events<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hospitality\/events are for hosting <strong>visitors and guests<\/strong> for University business in support of its educational, research or service activities.<\/li>\n<li>Meals or events such as departmental retreats, staff recognition or retirement celebrations are <strong>not<\/strong> hospitality\/events.<\/li>\n<li>The per person cost for food, beverage and gratuity shall not exceed double the University\u2019s per diem meal rate. Expenditures above this amount will not be paid by the University.<\/li>\n<li>Alcohol:\n<ul>\n<li>Where permitted,\n<ul>\n<li>one alcoholic beverage, per person, per meal, or<\/li>\n<li>for major hospitality events that include the service of alcohol and lasting more than two hours, not more than two alcoholic beverages per guest.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Alcohol is not permitted to be expensed to most externally sponsored research funds.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Working Meals<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/facts\/working-meals\/\">working meal<\/a> must be for the principal purpose of carrying out University business. If a meal does not meet the above \u2018hospitality\/events\u2019 definition, then it is considered a working meal for internal attendees.<\/li>\n<li>Meals or events such as departmental retreats, staff recognition or retirement celebrations are working meals.<\/li>\n<li>The per person cost for food, beverage and gratuity shall not exceed the University\u2019s per diem meal rate.
