  {"id":524,"date":"2013-10-03T16:11:11","date_gmt":"2013-10-03T20:11:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/facts\/?page_id=524"},"modified":"2023-01-11T11:26:59","modified_gmt":"2023-01-11T16:26:59","slug":"chargeback-credit-card","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/facts\/glossary\/c\/chargeback-credit-card\/","title":{"rendered":"Chargeback, Credit Card"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>What is it?<\/h3>\n<p>A chargeback is the reversal of a prior credit card sale transaction.\u00a0 A credit card chargeback occurs when a cardholder or card issuer (VISA, Mastercard, Discover, or American Express) disputes a transaction charged to their account and the resolution process results in a favorable decision to the cardholder.\u00a0\u00a0Customers dispute charges to their credit card usually when goods or services are not delivered within the specified time frame, goods received are damaged, or the purchase was not authorized by the credit card holder.<\/p>\n<h3>Why is this important?<\/h3>\n<p>A customer has approximately eleven months to dispute a charge, and there is a notification and retrieval process which is time-sensitive.
