Now involved in a dramatic conflict and afflicted by various kinds of social, political, and physical trauma, Ukraine is searching for a new national idea. This presentation considers Ukraine\u2019s national idea is evolving and how talk of \u2018the Other\u2019, has resulted in an extraordinary mix of national, Soviet, and global narratives in Ukraine that are in conflict with one another. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Milana Nikolko<\/strong> is an adjunct research professor at the Institute of European, Russian and Eurasian Studies (EURUS). Her research interests include political legitimacy in post-Soviet space, social capital formation and conflict in multi-ethnic societies, as well as diaspora and horizontal legitimacy in the global epoch.\u00a0 This presentation will be based on Dr. Nikolkos\u2019 most recent publication, where she was acting as author and co-editor of the volume, available here<\/a>.\u00a0Engaging Crimea and Beyond: Perspectives on Conflict, Cooperation and Civil Society Development.<\/strong>\u00a0Edited by\u00a0David Carment and\u00a0Milana Nikolko, 43-46.\u00a0Global Dialogues 11, Duisburg 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
