Congratulations to Professor Piotr Dutkiewicz<\/a> for the publication of his new co-edited book Civilizations and World Order<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In their new edited volume, Piotr Dutkiewicz<\/strong> (ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ University, Ottawa, Canada) and Elena Chebankova<\/strong> (University of Lincoln) fill the gaps in the existing theoretical and philosophical literature on international relations by problematizing civilization as a new unit of research in global politics. It interrogates to what extent and in what ways civilization is becoming a strategic frame of reference in the current world order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Our goal in this book was to interrogate to what extent and in what ways civilization is becoming a strategic frame of reference in the current international order. In other words, our main task was to discuss why and how the concept of civilization influences decisions that various members of the international community adopt. We focused on cardinal theoretical issues in examining civilizations as centres of global power, the impact of civili[1]zational politics on nation-state sovereignty, and the connections between civilization and modernity, liberal democracy, and capitalism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Given that civilizations are becoming an essential element of global politics, we need to square the circle between rational and spiritual factors that influence the evolving inter-state dialogue. This need arises because civilizations encompass religious, cultural, subconscious, and historical considerations that may become a parameter in the political decision making of various states.” -Piotr Dutkiewicz<\/p>\n\n\n\n
