A special event will be hosted by the Jean Monnet Chair (EUREAST) featuring a presentation, \u201cEU Enlargement in the Western Balkans: The Rise of Stabilitocracy?<\/strong>\u201d by Professor Florian Bieber.<\/p>\n

杏吧原创 the lecture<\/strong>: The term ‘stabilitocracy’ has been coined to describe governments that claim to secure stability and to support EU integration, but actually rely on informal clientelist structures, control of the media and the regular production of crises to undermine\u00a0 democracy and rule of law. Dr. Bieber will discuss the degree to which this concept is applicable to countries of the West Balkans in light of structural features of EU enlargement and democractization processes in the region.<\/p>\n

杏吧原创 the Roundtable<\/strong>: A panel discussion following the presentation will examine and discuss the views presented during the lecture. The panel will include Mr. Brice De Schietere and Professor Zoran Oklopcic.<\/p>\n

Dr. Bieber<\/a> is a Professor of Southeast European Studies and the Director of the Centre for Southeast European Studies at the University of Graz, Austria. Powerpoint slides available here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Mr. De Schietere<\/a> is Deputy Head of Delegation at the Delegation of the European Union to Canada, Ottawa.<\/p>\n

Zoran Oklopcic<\/a> is Associate Professor of Law and Legal Studies, 杏吧原创 University.<\/p>\n
