Professor Steve Ulrich of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering<\/a> has been named an Associate Fellow by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA)<\/a> for his “original contributions to the area of guidance, navigation, and control systems for spacecraft formation flying, proximity operations, and space robotics.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The grade of Associate Fellow recognizes individuals \u201cwho have accomplished or been in charge of important engineering or scientific work, or who have done original work of outstanding merit, or who have otherwise made outstanding contributions to the arts, sciences, or technology of aeronautics or astronautics.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the 130 newly elected AIAA Associate Fellows that make up the Class of 2024, Professor Ulrich is one of only two recipients from Canadian institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis distinguished group of professionals has made significant and lasting contributions to the aerospace profession,\u201d said AIAA President Laura McGill. \u201cThey exemplify expertise and dedication to excellence in advancing their specific technical disciplines. They are truly shaping the future of aerospace and we are proud of their achievements.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe AIAA Associate Fellows personify the innovation that drives our industry forward,\u201d said Dan Dumbacher, AIAA executive director. \u201cThe members of the Class of 2024 Associate Fellows embody the ingenuity and commitment that are crucial for developing solutions to the complex questions raised across the aerospace community\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Ulrich also serves as the Director of ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´\u2019s Spacecraft Robotics and Control Laboratory<\/a>. He will be formally honoured among the Class of 2024 during the 2024 AIAA SciTech Forum<\/a> in January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
