From Classroom to Construction Site: An Engineering Practicum Journey

When Parth Chauhan arrived in Ottawa to begin the Master of Engineering Practice (EP) program at ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ University, he was driven by a clear vision – to build the skills and experience needed to launch a career in Canada’s engineering sector. What he didn’t anticipate was how quickly that goal would connect him with one of the capital’s most complex and high-profile infrastructure projects in its history. Today, Parth is a Building Systems intern with , working on Ottawa’s Light Rail Transit (LRT) project. The role puts him directly inside an active construction environment, where engineering decisions have immediate, tangible impact — exactly the kind of real-world experience he had hoped to gain when he chose the EP program.

ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ University’s Faculty of Engineering and Design (FED) has moved up two spots to No. 10 in Canada in the . FED’s electronics engineering profile ranked No. 4 in Canada, and for the first time, our civil engineering profile was ranked No. 9 nationally. 

The U.S. News & World Report, a U.S.-based media company known for education analysis and global rankings, placed ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´â€™s Faculty of Engineering and Design in the top 30 per cent of engineering schools worldwide. The rankings are based solely on academic research performance and international reputation.

Dr. Ronald Miller Appointed Interim Dean of Engineering and Design

ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ University President Wisdom Tettey and Provost L. Pauline Rankin have announced that Dr. Larry Kostiuk is stepping down as Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Design (FED), effective July 31. Following an administrative leave, Dr. Kostiuk will return to FED as Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Effective August 1, 2025, Dr. Ronald Miller will assume the role of Dean on an interim basis until June 30, 2026.
