�Ӱ�ԭ�� University formally installed Wisdom Tettey as its 17th President and Vice-Chancellor on Monday, June 16. Tettey’s installation marked a significant milestone for the university community, and he was joined by close to 500 graduate students who walked across the stage to receive their degrees.

�Ӱ�ԭ�� University Wins Bid to Host 2026 Ontario Engineering Competition

The Faculty of Engineering and Design is thrilled to announce that �Ӱ�ԭ�� University has been selected to host the prestigious 2026 .

Over the past 45 years, the competition has grown to become one of the largest and highly-anticipated engineering competitions in Canada. This well-known event brings together more than 300 of the brightest engineering minds from 16+ post-secondary institutions across the province.

Competitors demonstrate their innovation and problem-solving skills in a competitive environment across nine categories, while also developing meaningful relationships with their peers. Teams who place in the top three of each category qualify to attend Nationals to compete against undergraduate engineering teams across Canada.

The competition is a notable one for the �Ӱ�ԭ�� engineering community. Its placed in five of the eight categories at this year’s competition.

The 2026 competition will be led by �Ӱ�ԭ�� engineering students Monica Paul and Carter Rhind.

Monica Paul, one of the two organizing Co-Chairs who will be in charge of hosting the OEC 2026 at �Ӱ�ԭ��.

“Bringing OEC to �Ӱ�ԭ�� gives us the incredible opportunity to share what our students and community have to offer,” said Paul. “Now is the time to get involved! If not as a member of the organizing committee then as a participant at the �Ӱ�ԭ�� Engineering Competition to compete for your spot at our OEC.”

As co-chairs, they have begun the hiring process for various positions in the organizing committee, beginning with the Vice President role. If students are interested in joining the committee, they are encouraged to and apply through by June 10th at 11:59 p.m. Other positions will come available on a rolling basis in the fall, such as director positions for each competition category, food and graphic design.

Carter Rhind, �Ӱ�ԭ�� 2026 OEC Co-Chair.

“I am excited to work with a passionate group of engineering students who will use their creativity to develop a memorable OEC,” said Rhind. “My life would not have been the same if I hadn’t gotten involved with the engineering community and I hope this can be a steppingstone for others to share the same experiences I had.”

�Ӱ�ԭ�� University is proud to have been chosen as the host for the 2026 competition. Join us as we celebrate engineering excellence right here in Ottawa!

Prof. Andrew Speirs to Host Ingenious Talks Online: Cartilage and Osteoarthritis on May 11

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a disease of the articular joints that affects 1 in 7 adults in Canada. Currently having no known cure, OA can be very painful and debilitating, with the standard treatment for advanced OA being joint replacement surgery. Typically considered to be a “cartilage disease”, OA also affects the bone and other tissues around the joint, costing the Canadian healthcare system over $3 billion as more than 130,000 hip and knee replacement surgeries are performed in Canada every year due to OA.

The book is a stunning visual exploration of Canada’s most recognized building accompanied by a comprehensive study of its history. Contributors include four members of the school, Lyette Fortin, Jill Stoner, Stephen Fai and Mariana Esponda.
