Professor Papineau had this to say:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"not-prose cu-quote cu-component-spacing\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\">The carbon price is the most efficient way to meet our climate change targets \u2014 at least if you\u2019re concerned about affordability for households.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\">There\u2019s a lot of science economy models that run simulations to identify the present value of the global damage from another tonne of carbon dioxide emitted. That\u2019s what\u2019s being reflected in [carbon] prices: for each tonne of carbon dioxide content for any given fuel, the extra price being added is the social cost of carbon. That\u2019s going to be a benefit to households who switch to low- or zero-carbon options because you\u2019re not going to be paying for that damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\">If you look at the benefits versus the costs of the carbon tax, the costs of not implementing it \u2014 when you consider climate damages \u2014 are much higher than any of the savings.
