ECON 1401 is a first year university level elementary mathematics course. Please note our department will not accept any registration and\/or override requests for concurrency in these courses.\n            <\/p>\n            <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Students admitted with a conditional offer to the B.Econ (Honours) with an additional requirement in economics, <strong>must complete <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/search\/?search=econ+0005\">ECON 0005: Preparatory Mathematics for Economics<\/a> in their first term of study <strong>with a minimum grade of C- or higher to be eligible to continue in their current program<\/strong> and continue with courses like <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/search\/?search=econ+1401\">ECON 1401: Elementary Mathematics for Economics I<\/a> in the subsequent term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students must check their Offer of Admission letter for any existing conditions on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ouac.on.ca\">OUAC website<\/a> under the \u201cView Offers\u201d tab or on <a href=\"http:\/\/360.carleton.ca\">ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´360.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"core-courses\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Core Courses<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Students are strongly encouraged to prioritize completion of the <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/undergrad\/undergradprograms\/economics\/#Economics__BEcon_Honours\">core courses<\/a> required in the Honour&#8217;s program prior to electives. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"concentration-courses\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Concentration Courses<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"flex p-4 rounded-md cu-alert cu-alert--warning not-prose\">\n\n            <svg xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" fill=\"none\" viewbox=\"0 0 24 24\" stroke-width=\"1.5\" stroke=\"currentColor\" aria-hidden=\"true\" data-slot=\"icon\" class=\"w-8 h-8\">\n            <path stroke-linecap=\"round\" stroke-linejoin=\"round\" d=\"M12 9v3.75m0-10.036A11.959 11.959 0 0 1 3.598 6 11.99 11.99 0 0 0 3 9.75c0 5.592 3.824 10.29 9 11.622 5.176-1.332 9-6.03 9-11.622 0-1.31-.21-2.57-.598-3.75h-.152c-3.196 0-6.1-1.25-8.25-3.286Zm0 13.036h.008v.008H12v-.008Z\"><\/path>\n        <\/svg>\n    \n    <div class=\"w-full ml-3\">\n        <p class=\"text-base md:text-lg mt-0.5 font-semibold\">\n            Always Check the Undergraduate Calendar and Public Class Schedule\n        <\/p>\n                    <p class=\"text-sm md:text-base text-cu-black-900\">\n                Not all concentration courses required in the B.ECON Honours&#8217; Program will be offered each semester. Check the undergraduate calendar for important dates and deadlines while course planning. \n            <\/p>\n            <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/undergrad\/undergradprograms\/economics\/\">Concentration Course Requirements in the 20-credit B.ECON Honours program<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"electives\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Electives<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"general-elective-suggestions-for-first-year-econ-students\">General Elective Suggestions for First Year ECON Students<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Important Information about Electives!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFree electives\u201d can be taken in&nbsp;any subject, including the subject of the major. The only restrictions when choosing \u201cfree electives\u201d are to ensure you\u2019re not taking courses that are prohibited (ie. worth 0.0 credit in an economics degree, such as ECON 2101) and that you are not exceeding the max of 7.0 credits allowed at the 1000-level for the entire degree (including the major and&nbsp;electives sections of your audit).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In contrast, \u201cElectives Not In Economics\u201d must be in subjects&nbsp;other&nbsp;than Economics and again, you need to ensure you\u2019re not exceeding the 1000-level maximum for the degree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a max of 7.0 credits 1000-level courses allowed for the entire degree (including requirements in the major and electives). If students exceed 7.0 credits at the 1000-level, course(s) would be set aside and not count towards the degree. You can check how many courses you\u2019ve taken at the 1000-level on your academic audit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students often ask for recommendations about elective courses. We typically advise students to look through previous course outlines of our <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/undergrad\/courses\/ECON\/\">3000-level ECON courses<\/a> and choose a course based on their interests. Please note electives do <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">NOT<\/strong> include concentration courses in your degree (for example if you are in the Financial Economics concentration, ECON 3050 will not be an elective option).
