class=\"wp-block-heading\">Email Communication<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Activate your 杏吧原创 Student Email:<\/strong> As a student, you will have an official 杏吧原创 email address that the university will use to communicate important information to you.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/its\/all-services\/email\/carleton-student-email\/\">Learn how to activate your 杏吧原创 student email.<\/a> <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Always include your student number, that makes it easier for our department to run your audit and answer your questions.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Department of Economics&nbsp;<strong>will only answer email requests from your 杏吧原创 email account.&nbsp;<\/strong>Any emails received from Yahoo, Gmail, or other email providers will be told to resend their email using their 杏吧原创 email address.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"first-year-degree-planning\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">First Year Degree Planning<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Before you register, please consult the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/registrar\/registration\/course-selection-guide\/\">First Year Course<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/registration\/course-selection-guide\/b-econ\/\"> <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/registrar\/registration\/course-selection-guide\/\">Selection Guide<\/a> for your program. This will help you to register in the correct courses for your degree program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/undergrad\/\">Undergraduate Calendar<\/a>&nbsp;for course descriptions, prerequisites and preclusions. You still need to learn how to read your academic audit, which reflects program requirements when you enter a program. It does not change, unlike the Undergraduate Calendar. The academic audit is your road map to graduation. See below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"familiarize-yourself-with-important-dates\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Familiarize Yourself with Important Dates<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/academicyear\/\">2024-2025 Academic Year Dates and Deadlines<\/a><\/strong>:&nbsp; Contains the dates prescribed by the University Senate for academic activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"check-your-audit\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Check Your Audit!<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/academicadvising\/your-academic-audit-2\/\">The Academic Audit<\/a> is the \u2018road map\u2019 to academic success. It lists which courses you are required to take in order to complete your degree at 杏吧原创.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Be sure to look at your audit often to make sure you are on the right track. The audit will inform you of the progress you have already made, as well as show you the courses that you will need to take in the future. Remember to check your audit regularly to ensure you are fulfilling your degree requirements!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Please note:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The audit is different than your transcript. The audit is not an official document. It lists all courses taken, but not all courses necessarily included towards your <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/academicadvising\/cgpas\/\">CGPA<\/a>(s). If your offer of admission requires you to take this course, you will not be allowed to register for ECON 1401 at the same time, as it is a first-year course in elementary mathematics for economics. Our department will NOT approve any override requests.\n            <\/p>\n            <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Students admitted with a conditional offer to the B.Econ (Honours) with an additional requirement in economics, <strong>must complete <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/search\/?search=econ+0005\">ECON 0005: Preparatory Mathematics for Economics<\/a> in their first term of study with a minimum of C- or higher to be eligible to continue in their current program and continue with courses like <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/search\/?search=econ+1401\">ECON 1401: Elementary Mathematics for Economics I<\/a> in the subsequent term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students must check their Offer of Admission Letter for any existing conditions on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ouac.on.ca\">OUAC website<\/a> under the \u201cView Offers\u201d tab or on <a href=\"http:\/\/360.carleton.ca\">杏吧原创360.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"electives\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Electives<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To make up the regular 5.0 credit course load, students should add electives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Please note:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The number of elective courses you will need each term will vary depending on how many courses you take in your major and\/or concentration.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You should prioritize the courses in your major and\/or concentration before considering which electives you want to take as part of your program.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The credits not included in the major CGPA are comprised of credits in electives that cannot be in ECON, and credits in free electives that can be in any subject, including ECON.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Free electives in ECON are extra to the major and concentration requirements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"economics-electives-suggestions\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Economics Electives Suggestions<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Students are advised to consider taking <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/search\/?search=comp+1005\">COMP 1005<\/a> and a 1000-level Political Science course (for example, <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/search\/?search=psci+1100\">PSCI 1100<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/search\/?search=psci+1200\">PSCI 1200<\/a> ),&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/search\/?search=ENGL+1020\">ENGL 1020<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/search\/?search=PSYC+1001\">PSYC 1001 <\/a>or <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/search\/?search=PHIL+2001\">PHIL 2001.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"first-year-seminars\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">First Year Seminars<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>First year students should consider taking <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/search\/?search=fysm+1608\">FYSM 1608: Selected Topics in Economics<\/a> [1.0 credit], <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/search\/?search=fysm+1908\">FYSM 1908: One-Term Seminar in Economics<\/a> [0.5 credit] or for a complete listing and description of the first-year seminars being offered visit the <a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/first-year-seminars\">First Year Seminar website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First-year seminars will get you away from the lecture hall and give you the chance, in a small class setting, to discuss and debate topics with your classmates and professors. You will also receive early and frequent feedback on class assignments and instruction in research, writing, and study skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"important-registration-information\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Important Registration Information<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>All you need to know about registration is on the <a href=\"https:\/\/admissions.carleton.ca\/fall-registration\/\">Registration Website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"time-tickets\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Time Tickets<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Confirm your Time Ticket information to identify when you may start registering for your courses. Register for both Fall and Winter terms when your Time Ticket opens.<strong> If you wait to register, you may not be able to select your preferred courses.<\/strong> For <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/registrar\/registration\/time-tickets\/.\">More information about Time Tickets<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please <a href=\"mailto:registrar@carleton.ca\">contact the Registrar&#8217;s Office<\/a> for information about how your year standing which may affect your fall\/winter registration Time Ticket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"time-conflicts\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Time Conflicts<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Keep in mind that&nbsp;University Policy&nbsp;does not permit undergraduate and special students to register in courses with time conflicts. If you select courses with a time conflict, a warning message will appear on your worksheet, and you will be prevented from registering until you adjust your schedule to create a conflict free timetable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"year-standing\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Year Standing<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>A student\u2019s year standing depends on how many courses are completed and counting in the academic audit towards their degree requirements. It does not include courses that are set aside on the academic audit. Please see <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/academicadvising\/year-standing\/\">Year Standing &#8211; Academic Advising <\/a>&nbsp;for a breakdown of year standing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"prerequisites-and-preclusions\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Prerequisites and Preclusions<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Preclusions&#8221; is a term used to describe two or more courses that contain sufficient content that overlaps, and therefore credit cannot be counted in the academic audit for more than one of the courses. For example, <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/search\/?search=MATH+1007\">MATH 1007<\/a> precludes credit for <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/search\/?search=MATH+1004\">MATH 1004<\/a>. If you take <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/search\/?search=MATH+1007\">MATH 1007<\/a>, and subsequently register for <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/search\/?search=MATH+1004\">MATH 1004<\/a>, it would forfeit <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/search\/?search=MATH+1007\">MATH 1007<\/a> in the audit and <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/search\/?search=MATH+1007\">MATH 1007<\/a> would no longer count for credit. A \u201cpreclusion\u201d does not mean that the courses are necessarily deemed equivalent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Please note:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>DEF(erred final grade) status at the end of a course precludes (continued) registration in any other course for which the former is a prerequisite. For example, if you defer the final exam for <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/search\/?search=econ+1401\">ECON 1401<\/a>, you <em>may<\/em> be deregistered in <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/search\/?search=econ+1402\">ECON 1402<\/a>. Please <a href=\"mailto:economics@carleton.ca\">reach out to the Department of Economics<\/a> if you have any questions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The Department of Economics enforces all course prerequisites and program requirements as outlined in the Undergraduate Calendar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"registration-override-requests\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Registration Override Requests<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Students seeking permission to register in a closed section of a course may submit a registration request via the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/registrar\/registration\/override-requests\/\">Registration Override Request<\/a>&nbsp;feature located on 杏吧原创 Central. Please note that submitting a request does not guarantee your registration in a course.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Please note:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Override requests are processed by the department offering the course<\/strong>. Please do not contact the departmental office or the instructor of the course for updates on the status of your request \u2013 an automatic response will be sent to your 杏吧原创 email with the status of your request.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"courses-that-are-full\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Courses That Are Full<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are trying to register in a course that is full, please monitor 杏吧原创 Central frequently throughout the registration period, to check for availability should a space become available as students add and drop courses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you require a course to graduate at the end of the term of registration, please plan to register in that course as soon as your Time Ticket opens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"summer-course-registration\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Summer Course Registration<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Hours and scheduling for summer session courses will differ significantly from those reported in the fall and winter. Your timetable should not be planned around the summer term, as there is no guarantee the course you are interested in taking will be offered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The summer class schedule is available through <a href=\"https:\/\/360.carleton.ca\/urd\/sits.urd\/run\/siw_lgn\">杏吧原创 Central<\/a>.
