This new and innovative Graduate school builds on more than 35 years of cooperation between the two academic departments. Students also attend academic events (see below) including seminars and conferences, on both campuses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Being in the capital city of Canada comes with great advantages. Proximity to the Bank of Canada, Statistics Canada, and other government agencies provides opportunities to network, easier access to data, and job opportunities at these agencies even before graduation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The program has an <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/grad\/gradprograms\/economics\/#PhD_Economics\">innovative curriculum<\/a>, including the second-year-paper course that helps students transition to a researcher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>OCGSE boasts excellent <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/economics\/graduate-studies\/phd-program\/job-market-candidates\/\">placement records<\/a>. class=\"wp-block-heading\">Workshops, Thesis Defences and Seminars<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Department of Economics hosts a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/economics\/brown-bags\/\">Brown Bag<\/a>\u201d seminar series for informal presentations of ongoing research by faculty, visiting scholars, and Ph.D. students, as well as discussions of research ideas.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/economics\/seminars-2\/\">Research seminars<\/a>&nbsp;are formal presentations from faculty and researchers from other institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the academic year of 2025-2026, some seminars will be held in person and some online. This event marks the culmination of years of rigorous study and original research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>OCGSE students are invited to watch thesis defenses.
