An internship program developed at the University of Alberta to support and encourage Black youth in a career in science, technology, engineering and math is expanding. The Experiential Learning in Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship () Program for Black Youth will be offered through a partnership with ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ University’s Faculty of Engineering and Design in Ottawa this summer. The program was founded in 2021 by University of Alberta engineering professor , to give participants tools and skills to address obstacles in pursuing careers in STEM.

Henrietta Lacks was an African-American woman whose cancer cells are the source of the HeLa cell line – the first immortalized human cell line and one of the most important discoveries in medical research.
