This video is going to highlight the differences between pages and posts.

A page is basically what you understand as a web page. So right now, I’m on a page. And if I were to click on one of these links, that would take me to another page. When you send somebody one of your site’s URLs, you’re usually sending them to the address of a certain page. Basically, your website’s overall structure is made up of pages.

Pages are static and make up your site navigation – so all of these are pages on this training site. They’re meant for content that doesn’t change much over time. And things that you always want visitors to be able to find. For example, here I always want people to be able to go to our Tips & Tricks under Resources. Another good example would be a contact page or an about page.

Now let’s compare that to a post. On this page, we can see a variety of different types of content which are known as posts. Posts are distinct in that they aren’t a part of the navigation system. And you can gather a number of them onto a page in a list format like we see here.

There are different kinds of posts – like news posts, events, and people. (Check out the previous video for an overview of the different kinds). They’re often displayed chronologically with publishing dates and are updated regularly. Posts are for communicating new information as it becomes available. And they’re great for keeping your website content fresh.

Try it Out!

Now that you understand the difference between pages and posts, explore your website and identify examples of each.

Open the Pages section and view a few existing pages.

Open the Posts section and view a few existing posts.

Compare how the content is organized and displayed.

Consider whether each example is best suited as a page or a post.

[64
post-223","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry","cu_page_type-basic-training-module-2
["GET
