This video is all about \u201cCategories\u201d. Categories are a way for you to group similar content together, and allow it to be used across your site. Categories can be used for a variety of content, like posts, events, people, and more.<\/p>\n<p>An example of \u201cCategories\u201d being used is Web Services\u2019 News page. All the news posts listed here are grouped under the \u201c杏吧原创 CMS Blog\u201d category.<\/p>\n<p>Now let\u2019s try creating a category and applying it to a post. I am working with posts for this example, but the same steps apply for pages, FAQ, glossary, files, events, people and videos.<\/p>\n<p>From the dashboard, hover over \u201cPosts\u201d on the side menu and click \u201cCategories\u201d. You\u2019ll be brought to a new page, where you\u2019ll be able to see all of the current \u201cPost\u201d categories that exist on your site.<\/p>\n<p>The boxes on the left here allow you to create a new category. First, you need to give your category a name, which I\u2019m just gonna call \u201cTest News\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Then, we\u2019re gonna fill out the slug, which is just the ending of the URL. It can contain letters, numbers, and hyphens. Here, I\u2019ll just type \u201ctest-news\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>You have the option to select a parent category for your new category, which would further group items together. An example of this would be making a category called \u201cSpring Newsletter\u201d with the parent being \u201cNewsletter\u201d. Having a parent category is not required.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, you can add a description for the category. This isn\u2019t necessary with CMS, as the descriptions are not visible on the front end anywhere.<\/p>\n<p>Once you\u2019re done filling out the necessary fields, click the \u201cAdd New Category\u201d button. Your new category will appear on the list on the left.<\/p>\n<p>Now let\u2019s add a post to this new category. One way you can do this is to open the content editor screen for a post, and navigate to the Categories menu. Check off all categories you wish to apply to the post, and click \u201cSave Draft\u201d or \u201cPublish\u201d to save your option.<\/p>\n<p>You can also create a new Category from this menu by clicking \u201cAdd New Category\u201d, typing the name in the \u201cNew Category Name\u201d field, and clicking the \u201cAdd New Category\u201d button at the bottom. This new category will be automatically applied to your post, but you can uncheck it.<\/p>\n<p>Another way to add a post to a category is by using \u201cQuick Edit\u201d. From the list of posts, hover over the title of the post you want, and click \u201cQuick Edit\u201d.
