{"id":2495,"date":"2014-02-21T14:26:01","date_gmt":"2014-02-21T19:26:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/ci\/?p=2495"},"modified":"2014-02-21T14:26:01","modified_gmt":"2014-02-21T19:26:01","slug":"funding-opp-canada-china-scholars-exchange-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/ci\/2014\/funding-opp-canada-china-scholars-exchange-program\/","title":{"rendered":"FUNDING OPP: Canada-China Scholars Exchange Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Background<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The Canada-China Scholars\u2019 Exchange Program (CCSEP) is based on reciprocal agreements between the Government of Canada and the Government of the People\u2019s Republic of China.<\/p>\n<p>A number of short-term non-degree-seeking awards are offered to Canadian academics, students and professionals who wish to study and\/or do research in subject areas related to China at participating\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.csc.edu.cn\/laihua\/indexen.aspx\">Chinese institutions<\/a>. Scholarships are available for studies and research, for a combination of studies and language studies or for language studies only.<\/p>\n<p><b>Opportunity<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Scholarships are available for studies and research, a combination of studies and language studies or for language studies only. Each award is tenable for a period of no more than 12 months and no less than 4 months for students or no less than 8 weeks in the case of midcareer professionals, teaching and research staff.<\/p>\n<p>The scholarship is tenable between September 2014 and August 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Applications will be assessed on the applicant&#8217;s academic merit and proposed research plan. Professionals must demonstrate strong leadership qualities through a commitment to innovation, creativity and an entrepreneurial spirit. Preference will be given to those candidates whose research is related to China.<\/p>\n<p><b>Eligibility<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Applicants must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>be Canadian citizens;<\/li>\n<li>be either:\n<ul>\n<li>a full-time permanent teaching or research staff at a recognized postsecondary education or research institution in Canada;<\/li>\n<li>a student enrolled in either an undergraduate or graduate program at\u00a0a recognized postsecondary education institution in Canada; or<\/li>\n<li>a mid-career professional\u00a0from a Canadian\u00a0government,\u00a0media or\u00a0cultural organization,\u00a0who has\u00a0a graduate studies (master&#8217;s or PhD) degree and has managerial, policy development or decision making responsibilities for at least three years with the organization;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>have achieved the required level of written and spoken Chinese by the host institution in China, if applicable; and<\/li>\n<li>undertake studies in an approved subject area in a Chinese institution.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Please note that employees of the Government of Canada or its agencies (including those on leave), although eligible for this scholarship, are not eligible for the travel benefit funded by DFATD.<\/p>\n<p><b>Funding Available<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The award component provided by the Chinese Ministry of Education includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>tuition fees at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.csc.edu.cn\/laihua\/indexen.aspx\">participating Chinese institutions<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>a monthly stipend appropriate to the recipient status as students and research scholars;<\/li>\n<li>housing;<\/li>\n<li>medical insurance;<\/li>\n<li>teaching and research materials; and<\/li>\n<li>meals and accommodation during stopovers in Beijing\/Shanghai en route to the final destination.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The award component provided by\u00a0Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada (DFATD) includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>travel to and from the destination in China via the most cost-effective route between their point of origin and the final destination. The itinerary must be approved by\u00a0DFATD\u00a0or the scholarship administrator, the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE). Travel arrangements must be made by the scholarship administrator authorized by\u00a0DFATD. The funding only covers the flights for travel to China from Canada at the beginning of the scholarship and for return travel to Canada upon completion of the scholarship. Scholarship recipients should make travel arrangements through a CBIE designated travel agent as soon as they obtain their visa. Flights should be booked and paid for before March 31, 2015.
