As part of a €10.8 billion budget for research and innovation agreed for 2013, the European Commission has announced an €8.1 billion euro package of calls for proposals under the EU’s Seventh Framework Programme for Research (FP7). This is the final and largest ever package of FP7 calls. Of particular interest to Canadian researchers are the calls opened in Cooperation and People.

Cooperation

People

The COOPERATION Programme supports proposals from multi-national, multi-sectoral consortia. Each proposal must include a minimum of three partners from three different European Member States or Associated Countries.

Canadian researchers are eligible to participate in these proposals on a self-funded basis. In exceptional circumstances, if the proposal can successfully make the case that a Canadian partner’s participation is both essential to the project’s success and that it represents a unique expertise not available in Europe, Canadians may also be eligible to receive funding directly from the European Commission.

Some calls for proposals are also specifically targeted to Canadians. Although Canadians may participate in any project, these calls especially encourage the participation of Canadian partners. A listing of these targeted calls is now available at ERA-Can.ca
