The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation\u2019s HIV strategy is aimed at reducing new HIV infections and reducing the burden of disease in developing countries, where the epidemic represents one of the most serious health and development challenges.\u00a0 The HIV Diagnostics team is now accepting Letters of Inquiry for the identification of novel biomarkers that can be used effectively to measure HIV incidence at the population level. They are looking for biomarkers that could be used alone or in combination, and that are at the initial development stage.<\/p>\n

Applicants can be at any experience level; in any discipline; and from any organization.<\/p>\n

The foundation is willing to invest up to a total of $3M for establishing proof-of-concept of a novel biomarker, or set of biomarkers.\u00a0 Individual grants will not exceed US $1 million. The foundation plans to fund three to five proposals, welcomes collaborations and allows multiple submissions from an institution.<\/p>\n

The deadline for applications is Friday, May 18, 2012.<\/strong><\/p>\n
