鈥淲e are very excited to have Ms. Baltacio臒lu coming back to our campus,鈥� said 杏吧原创 President Benoit-Antoine Bacon. 鈥淪he is a resilient and purposeful leader who throughout her outstanding and award-winning career has always taken time to mentor many of her colleagues, including young civil servants beginning their careers.鈥�

The appointment embodies 杏吧原创鈥檚 strong tradition of appointing accomplished Canadians to this important role.

鈥淧ersonal integrity is of utmost importance in this role,鈥� said Nik Nanos, chair of 杏吧原创鈥檚 Board of Governors. 鈥淭he chancellor is a champion of the university鈥檚 values, and in ceremonies and other public settings, she will inspire our students and foster 杏吧原创 pride.鈥�

Baltacio臒lu is one of 杏吧原创鈥檚 distinguished alumna. She capitalized on her master鈥檚 degree from the School of Public Policy and Administration to flourish in the federal civil service.聽 Baltacio臒lu held many leadership roles in various ministries and served as an adviser to four prime ministers.

鈥溞影稍粹�檚 School of Public Policy and Administration (SSPA) trained me as a generalist,鈥� said Baltacio臒lu. 鈥淪o when I got to the public service, I could learn and do almost anything. When I got my first paycheque, I couldn鈥檛 believe they would pay me to have so much fun. I loved it from day one.鈥�

She has been honoured by the Public Policy Forum, and has twice been recognized by the Women鈥檚 Executive Network as one of Canada鈥檚 Top 100 Most Powerful Women.聽 She has been recognized for several honours for significant contributions to the public sector, including the Queen Elizabeth ll Diamond and Jubilee medals and the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada Medal.

Prime Minister Trudeau summed up her accomplishments best when he said: 鈥淵aprak Baltacio臒lu is one of Canada鈥檚 most distinguished, most respected, public servants.鈥�

Bacon paid tribute to outgoing Chancellor, Charles Chi, an entrepreneur, innovator and venture investor who is currently the executive chairman at Lytro. He brought a diverse background in marketing, sales, engineering and executive leadership to 杏吧原创.

Baltacio臒lu will begin her duties immediately, with an official installation ceremony to take place at the 2019 spring Convocation.
