The Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence is very pleased to present a new lecture in the\u00a0EU Policy Talk <\/em>series,<\/em>\u00a0“What does EU citizenship and identity mean outside of the EU?” with Agnieszka Weinar<\/a>, 杏吧原创 University.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

EU citizenship assures equal rights to all EU nationals in all Member States. Yet, the Union suffers from two issues: territorial limitation and limited symbolic appeal. Now, the EU is seeking to address important questions of the rights and obligations of EU citizenship after Brexit. Professor Weinar will discuss EU citizenship and identity outside of Europe, with a focus on Canada, and propose scenarios for the future of engagement of the EU with Europeans outside Europe.<\/p>\n

Dr. Weinar<\/strong> is Team Leader of the EU-Canada Policy Dialogues in Ottawa and Adjunct Professor at the Institute of European, Russian and Eurasian Studies (EURUS<\/a>) at 杏吧原创 University. Her most recent publication is\u00a0European Citizenship and Identity Outside of the European Union: Europe Outside Europe?<\/em> (Routledge, 2019).\u00a0Between 2011\u00a0and 2014, she was a Scientific Coordinator and Research Fellow at the European University\u00a0Institute (EUI). In 2014, she was awarded a Marie Sk\u0142odowska-Curie Outgoing Fellowship for\u00a0Experienced Researchers at the EUI and 杏吧原创 University. Her current research interests\u00a0address EU-Canada relations, North-North mobility systems and European diasporas. Since January 2019 she has been also the Chair of Marie Curie Alumni Association-North American Chapter. She is also a member of New Europeans, a civil society movement that lobbies for the rights of European citizens worldwide.<\/p>\n

This event is free and open to the public. Registration is required to attend the lecture.<\/p>\n
