The Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence and the Department of Political Science are pleased to organize a co-hosted research seminar,\u00a0Brexit and the Single Market<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>with Professor Michelle Egan, School of International Service, American University.<\/p>\n

杏吧原创 the Event: <\/strong>The vote to leave the European Union and the administrative chaos surrounding British \u201cexit\u201d have dominated domestic debate in the United Kingdom, where \u201cleaving the single market\u201d is described by supporters as a seamless solution to economic and social divisions within British society.\u00a0 It is more accurately viewed as transforming the British state in profound and unpredictable ways, and as a countermovement against the neoliberal mode of European integration and a disruption to the single market. This discussion will review the domestic impacts for the UK of leaving the single market, the effect of Brexit on the single market in Europe, and the safeguards in place to mitigate the risks on the European single market.<\/span><\/p>\n

杏吧原创 the Speaker: <\/strong>Michelle Egan is Professor and Jean Monnet Chair ad personam in the School of International Service at American University in Washington, DC. She is a Council of Foreign Relations Fellow (Canada). Her research focuses on economic integration in Europe and the United States, trade policy, as well as transatlantic relations. <\/span><\/p>\n
