{"id":10213,"date":"2017-10-24T10:54:18","date_gmt":"2017-10-24T14:54:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/ces\/?post_type=cu-events&#038;p=10213"},"modified":"2019-10-19T09:43:55","modified_gmt":"2019-10-19T13:43:55","slug":"herman-von-rompuy-future-of-europe","status":"publish","type":"cu-events","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/ces\/cu-events\/herman-von-rompuy-future-of-europe\/","title":{"rendered":"Keynote Lecture: Herman Van Rompuy on \u201cThe Future of Europe\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We are pleased to announce that Herman Van Rompuy, President emeritus of the European Council, will give a keynote lecture at 杏吧原创 University on \u201cThe Future of Europe\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>杏吧原创 the Speaker: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.consilium.europa.eu\/en\/european-council\/former-president-herman-van-rompuy\/\">Herman Van Rompuy<\/a> served as the first President of the European Council between 2009 and 2014. In this function, he helped steer the European Union through the Eurozone financial crisis; he was also one of the EU leaders who accepted the Nobel Peace Prize 2012 on the EU\u2019s behalf. Prior to his career at the EU level, Van Rompuy served as Prime Minister of Belgium (2008-2009), Speaker of the Belgian House of Representatives (2007-2008) and in several ministerial positions in the Belgian government. He is now the President of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epc.eu\/\">European Policy Centre<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>This event is co-hosted by the Centre for European Studies Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence, the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/president\/\">Office of the President of 杏吧原创 University<\/a>, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/canada.diplomatie.belgium.be\/en\">Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-10987\"
