At the same time, they are reluctant Europeans, guarding national sovereignty against the influence of EU institutions. This lecture explores the strain between Nordic global and European policies and discusses potential explanations.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/politicalscience.ku.dk\/staff\/academic_staff\/?pure=en\/persons\/2018\">Dr. Anders Wivel<\/a> is Professor of Political Science at the University of Copenhagen. His two most recent books are <em>The Nordic Countries and the European Union<\/em> (co-edited with C. Howard Gr\u00f8n and P . Nedergaard, Routledge, 2015) and <em>The Routledge Handbook of Scandinavian Politics<\/em> (co-edited with P .
