The conference will focus on important topics and issues relating to the European Union (EU).

This year the list of the topics includes disinformation campaigns, European security and defense, Ukraine, EU enlargement, Populism and EU-Canada Relations.

Students will have the opportunity to engage with a keynote speaker in the morning and attend a choice of three interactive workshops throughout the day presented by graduate students at ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ University. Students studying history, politics, world issues, economics, law, social sciences, and related courses are encouraged to join the conference.

This event is held specifically for high school teachers in the Ottawa area who are interested in expanding their knowledge of the European Union’s history, politics, and global role. We aim to provide educators with up-to-date resources and insights that will support the inclusion of European topics in high school curriculums.

The title of this keynote issues conference is “Various faces of migration to the European Union – markets, geopolitics and humanitarian concerns.” Dr. Weinar will discuss the drivers of EU policy and the barriers to its development, as well as the philosophy of the EU and its powers in the field of migration. She will also give students a hands-on table-top exercise to help them come up with viable solutions to the current Ukrainian crisis.

In less than a month, the world has changed dramatically and we continue to see global shifts happening at an unprecedented pace. In every way, we want to support teachers and students through the Jean Monnet Project activities to strengthen understanding about Canada and the EU.

High school teachers are invited to attend the Teachers’ Workshop!

If you are a teacher with Upper Canada District School Board, Ottawa-ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ District School Board, Ottawa Catholic School Board or Limestone District School Board (Kingston), you can join this interactive online workshop designed to assist with classroom teaching.

Our workshop goal is to strengthen and deepen teachers’ knowledge of the significant political, economic, and cultural challenges facing the European Union (EU) and European countries and Canada-EU relations.

This event is free and open to all high school teachers. To attend, please register by completing the form below.

Additional recorded presentations will be available for viewing, one of which will be a demonstration of the EU Learning Project’s ‘The Origins and Implications of Brexit’ lesson plan (link to lesson plans here).
