Baltic Reactions to Russia’s War Against Ukraine

May 11, 2022 at 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM

Location:Zoom
Cost:Free

Russia’s unprovoked attack on Ukraine has turned into a war unseen in Europe since World War II. Although Ukraine’s brave and determined resistance against Russia’s invasion has been the focal point of attention and a source of inspiration for Western political elites and societies, repercussions of the war extend far beyond Ukraine’s geographical borders. Thus, it is necessary to look at the role of the Baltic states (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania) in this military confrontation and the war’s impact on these four states and their societies. On the one hand, these states have played a major role in providing military assistance to Ukraine. They have also welcomed Ukrainian refugees who have fled the country due to Russia’s aggression. On the other hand, however, the Baltic states need support from their key NATO allies and EU partners because they are front line states that may become targets of Russia’s dissatisfaction with Western support to Ukraine. The event aims to look at the perspectives of the Baltic states on the war in Ukraine and its effects on European security.
