Canada and Europe: Converging or Diverging Responses to International and Domestic Challenges?

This major international conference featured leading聽scholars from across Canada and Europe who reflected on developments over the last decade and potential areas of convergence or divergence聽between Europe and Canada in the face of current international and domestic issues. Topics included: cooperation in聽dealing with international conflict; prospects for intensified trade and investment; and聽comparing聽Canadian and聽European responses to challenges聽such as environmental sustainability and climate change, migration聽and integration of immigrants, managing economic crisis, policies for inclusive growth and social inclusion, and issues of democratic legitimacy and governance.
A Lightning Policy Brief Series — a suite of policy briefs aiming to stimulate public thought and action — was produced聽in conjunction with this聽conference.
This event received support from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and 杏吧原创 University’s Faculty of Public Affairs Research Month. We were pleased to host this event as part of the celebrations marking 40 years of the European Union’s diplomatic presence in Canada.
