Read two earlier energy policy briefs published online. The first, Pricing Carbon Effectively: Lessons from the European Emissions Trading System by Dallas Burtraw, Resources for the Future and Michael Themann, RWI – Leibniz Institute for Economic Research, discusses a model for market-based approaches to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in other world regions. The second, Power Sector Integration in the North American Northeast by Pierre-Olivier Pineau, HEC Montréal, focuses on a unique regional shared commitment to fight climate change.

Jon H. Pammett is Professor of Political Science at Ӱԭ University. He is also co-Director of the Ӱԭ University Survey Centre, and Canadian delegate to the International Social Survey Programme (ISSP). In this interview, Dr. Pammett describes the results from the ISSP and its connection to environmental issues in Canada and Europe. Dr. Pammett also describes the role that environmental issues play during election, referendums and how they are presented in party platforms.

This interview resulted from a workshop that explored public attitudes toward environmental issues and policies with a focus on the similarities and differences between Canada and Europe. The conference took place at Ӱԭ University on Feb 8, 2013. The event was supported by the Canada-Europe Transatlantic Dialogue.

Policy Workshop: Public Attitudes and Environmental Policy in Canada and Europe

This international workshop featured experts from Canada, Europe, and the US who examined public attitudes toward environmental policy in a comparative context. Presentations included analysis of cross-national survey research data on environmental attitudes based on the International Social Survey Programme; the Canadian survey is run by Ӱԭ’s Survey Centre.
