For example, instructors can set release conditions to grant access based on grades, group, date, and completion of other course components. Release conditions are available within <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun AdvancedProofingIssueV2 SCXW157337411 BCX9\" data-ccp-parastyle=\"Normal (Web)\">a number of<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW157337411 BCX9\" data-ccp-parastyle=\"Normal (Web)\"> different D2L Brightspace tools (<a href=\"#list1\">see a full list of available tools below<\/a>) and work essentially the same way in every tool, although you may have to access them differently.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Release Conditions can also be created for modules and submodules (i.e. groups of content). It is good practice to inform students what release <\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun Highlight BCX9 SCXW143940313\" lang=\"EN-CA\" xml:lang=\"EN-CA\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun BCX9 SCXW143940313\">conditions<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun Highlight BCX9 SCXW143940313\" lang=\"EN-CA\" xml:lang=\"EN-CA\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun BCX9 SCXW143940313\">\u00a0exist in your course.<\/span><\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><strong>You can create release conditions for any of the following course tools:<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"columns\"><div class=\"columns__two\"><ul>\n<li>Checklist<\/li>\n<li>Content modules and topics<\/li>\n<li>Custom widgets<\/li>\n<li>Discussion forums and topics<\/li>\n<li>Assignments<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<div class=\"columns__two\"><ul>\n<li>Grade items and categories<\/li>\n<li>Intelligent Agents<\/li>\n<li>Announcement items<\/li>\n<li>Quizzes<\/li>\n<li>Surveys (that are not anonymous)<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div><\/div>\n<h2>Tips for Using Release Conditions<\/h2>\n<table style=\"width: 100%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: solid; border-color: #d6d2d2; height: 236px;\" border=\"1\">\n<tbody>\n<tr style=\"height: 47px;\">\n<td style=\"width: 16.4023%; background-color: #f5f5f5; border-color: #d6d2d2; height: 47px;\"><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Avoid Unnecessary Conditions<\/span><\/b><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 83.5977%; border-style: solid; border-color: #d6d2d2; height: 47px;\">Each release condition associated with a tool takes additional time for Brightspace to process. Use as few conditions as possible to set up a path that minimizes the amount of time students spend waiting for the page to load.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr style=\"height: 47px;\">\n<td style=\"width: 16.4023%; border-style: solid; background-color: #f5f5f5; border-color: #d6d2d2; height: 47px;\"><b>Avoid Contradictory Conditions<\/b><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 83.5977%; height: 47px;\">Contradictory conditions occur when two or more conditions cancel each other out on an associated\u00a0 item. For example, the conditions \u201cUser must achieve greater than 49.9% on Grade Item 1\u201d and \u201cUser must achieve less than 50% on Grade Item 1\u201d are contradictory. Learners could not satisfy both conditions at the same time, they would not be able to see the item associated with these conditions.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr style=\"height: 47px;\">\n<td style=\"width: 16.4023%; background-color: #f5f5f5; border-color: #d6d2d2; border-style: solid; height: 47px;\"><b>Avoid Impossible Conditions<\/b><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 83.5977%; border-style: solid; border-color: #d6d2d2; height: 47px;\">Ensure that your conditions are not impossible for learners to satisfy. For example, a condition that learners must achieve greater than 100% on a grade item would be impossible (unless bonus marks are available for the item). If learners are unable to satisfy a condition, they are unable to access the content or tools to which the condition is attached.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr style=\"height: 95px;\">\n<td style=\"width: 16.4023%; background-color: #f5f5f5; border-color: #d6d2d2; border-style: solid; height: 95px;\"><b>Avoid Circular Release Conditions<\/b><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 83.5977%; border-style: solid; border-color: #d6d2d2; height: 95px;\">A circular release condition makes it impossible for learners to satisfy the set of conditions. For example, if you set the condition that learners must view a content topic before they can post to a discussion, and then set a condition that they must post to the discussion before they can access the content topic, you have a circular release condition. Learners can\u2019t satisfy either condition\u00a0 and thus cannot gain access to the content.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h2>Creating a New Release Condition<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Log into <a href=\"https:\/\/brightspace.carleton.ca\/\">Brightspace<\/a>\u00a0with your My杏吧原创One credentials.<\/li>\n<li>On the\u00a0<em>Brightspace<\/em>\u00a0homepage, locate your course in one of the following ways:\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: circle;\">\n<li>Select the course tile under the <em>My Courses\u00a0<\/em>widget.<\/li>\n<li>Select the <b>Course Selector Grid\u00a0<\/b><i><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/culearnsupport\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screen-Shot-2020-11-02-at-8.15.40-PM.png\" width=\"22\" height=\"20\" data-imagetype=\"External\" \/>\u00a0<\/i>and select the course from the drop-down menu.
