You have the option to add a range of question types to your quizzes, including multiple choice, matching, short answer, true\/false, and more. Quiz questions are stored in the Brightspace Question Library. The question library allows for randomization and shuffling within quizzes. Once you have created a quiz activity for your course, you are able to add questions and preview your quiz before making it available to students.<\/p>\n<p>For more quiz instructions and video tutorials, see\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/documentation.brightspace.com\/EN\/le\/quizzes\/instructor\/creating_quizzes_intro.htm?tocpath=Instructors%7CAssess%20and%20grade%20learners%7CCreate%20quizzes%7C_____0\">D2L Brightspace Quiz Documentation<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Creating a Quiz<\/h2>\n<p>For an overview of how to create a quiz in Brightspace, watch the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=1JLbaU2Zc1E&amp;list=PLxHabmZzFY6kAoPnl_PgFb9q-qCbRST3m&amp;index=1\">Create New Quiz<\/a> D2L video tutorial.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> For quiz grade items that are connected to the gradebook, you will need to hide the grade item from the students until you are ready to release the grades. See <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/brightspace\/instructors\/showing-hiding-grades\/\">Showing\/Hiding Grades<\/a> for instructions on how to hide grade items.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 100%; height: 100%; background-color: #edf7fc; border: 1px; border-style: solid; border-color: #b3c3d1; padding: 12px 12px 1px;\">\n<p><strong>TIP:<\/strong> We strongly recommend creating your questions in the Question Library before you create your quiz. Quiz questions can be stored in the Question Library for re-use in multiple quizzes or in other types of assessments, such as self-assessments for student practice and studying.\u00a0You can create your quiz questions in a Question Library section that can be easily imported into your quiz. The due date indicates the quiz deadline to students. If a quiz is submitted after the due date, the submission will be flagged as late. Brightspace quizzes do not require a Due Date. Start and End Dates are recommended for determining the timeframe in which students can take the quiz.<\/li>\n<li>Enter a description (optional).<\/li>\n<li>Under <em>Questions<\/em>, you have the following options for adding questions to your quiz:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Add Existing<\/strong> &#8211; Add an existing question from your question library.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Create New<\/strong> &#8211; Create a new question, question section, or question pool<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>In the right panel, customize your quiz settings under the following categories:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4>Availability Dates &amp; Conditions<\/h4>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li><strong><a id=\"start\"><\/a>Start and End Dates<\/strong> &#8211; Start\/End dates determine the timeframe in which students can take the quiz.<\/li>\n<li>Select the <strong>Start Date<\/strong> field to set a Start Date for the quiz, then enter the date and time.<\/li>\n<li>Select the <strong>End Date<\/strong> field to set an End Date for the quiz, and enter the date and time<\/li>\n<li><strong>Release Conditions<\/strong> &#8211; Users are not able to access or view the quiz unless they meet the release conditions. See the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/brightspace\/instructors\/creating-release-conditions\/\">Creating Release Conditions<\/a> page for instructions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Add Availability Dates to Calendar<\/strong> &#8211; Only end date if both are set<\/li>\n<li><strong>Special Access<\/strong> &#8211; Special Access allows quizzes to be available to only a select group of users or individualized due dates for certain users. The start and end dates are determined by the selections made in the <a href=\"#start\">Availability Dates &amp; Conditions section<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The options for when the selected time limit expires are:\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li><strong>Automatically Submit Quiz Attempt<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Flag as &#8220;exceeded time limit&#8221; and allow the learner to continue working<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Do nothing: the time limit is not enforced<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Paging<\/strong> &#8211; Select one of the following paging options from the drop-down menu:\n<ul>\n<li>All Questions Displayed Together<\/li>\n<li>1 question per page<\/li>\n<li>5 questions per page<\/li>\n<li>10 questions per page<\/li>\n<li>Add page break after each section<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Shuffle Quiz<\/strong> &#8211; Select this option is you want to shuffle your quiz questions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Allow Hints<\/strong> &#8211; Select this option if you want to allow hints. Hints display extra information about a question to students when they are taking a quiz.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Disable Email, Instant Messages, and Alerts Within Brightspace<\/strong> &#8211; If you select this option, students cannot access the Brightspace Email, Instant Messages, or their alerts if they have a quiz attempt in progress.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Attempts &amp; Completion<\/h4>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li><strong>Attempts<\/strong> &#8211; By default, 1 attempt is selected. To edit the number of attempts select <strong>Manage Attempts<\/strong> and configure the following:\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li><strong>Attempts allowed<\/strong> &#8211; Select the <strong>number of attempts<\/strong> from the drop-down menu.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Overall Grade Calculation<\/strong> &#8211; To edit how the overall grade is calculated, select one of the following options from the drop-down menu:\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li>Highest Attempt<\/li>\n<li>Lowest Attempts<\/li>\n<li>Average of all Attempts<\/li>\n<li>First Attempt<\/li>\n<li>Last Attempt<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>OK<\/strong>.\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li><strong>Category<\/strong> &#8211; If you have set up quiz categories, you have the option to select a category from the drop-down menu.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Notification Email<\/strong> &#8211; If you want to receive notifications when a quiz is attempted, enter an email address or multiple email addresses separated by a comma.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Evaluation &amp; Feedback<\/h4>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li><strong>Auto-publish attempt results immediately upon completion.<\/strong> When this setting enabled, learners will be able to view their evaluated attempt immediately upon submission.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Synchronize to grade book on<\/strong><strong>\u00a0published<\/strong>. With this setting enabled, the learner\u2019s overall grade and overall feedback will be automatically published to the grade book once it has been evaluated.<\/li>\n<li><strong>When published, display to learners. <\/strong>Select the <strong>Attempt Grade<\/strong> checkbox to make the attempt grades visible to learners. instead.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Save and close<\/strong> to return to your <em>Manage Quizzes<\/em> page, or aelect <strong>Save<\/strong> to remain on the quiz editing The greater the difference between the number of questions in the question pool and the number of questions on the quiz, the greater the chance that each student will get different questions.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#shuffle1\"><strong>Shuffle Questions<\/strong><\/a> &#8211; <i>\u00a0<\/i>Any quiz can be shuffled at the quiz level.
