Our policy is to provide these resources&nbsp;and equipment&nbsp;for educational, study and research purposes, restricting their use as required to faculty, staff and students within SSAC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><thead><tr><th class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">User<\/th><th class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">Books<\/th><th>DVD \/ Bluray<\/th><th>Equipment<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">Students<\/td><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">30 days, max. 21 items<\/td><td>3 days, max. 12 items<\/td><td>1 day, max. 21 items<\/td><\/tr><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">Faculty<\/td><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">90 days, max. 21 items<\/td><td>14 days, max. 24 items<\/td><td>1 day, max. 21 items<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Days = business days<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"general-principles\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">General Principles<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Collection materials may be consulted in the AVRC and reserved for use in class. <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Borrowing material <\/strong><strong>will always be at the discretion of AVRC staff and will depend upon the needs of SSAC&#8217;s Art &amp; Architectural History, Film Studies and Music<\/strong> <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">programs.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The staff of the School\u2019s Audio-Visual Resource Centre must be consulted before incorporating student use of the AVRC&#8217;s material into curricula. This will facilitate student use of SSAC&#8217;s resources and ensure that the AVRC staff has an opportunity to go over the relevant policy and procedures with individual instructors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reproduction of material under the stewardship of the AVRC is strictly prohibited unless expressly stated otherwise. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ University&#8217;s copyright information and guidelines are posted <a href=\"https:\/\/library.carleton.ca\/copyright-carleton\">here <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"borrowing-books-from-the-avrc-library\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Borrowing books from the AVRC library<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">All SSAC instructors\/faculty and students<\/strong> with an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton-avrc.kohacatalog.com\/\">AVRC Library<\/a>&nbsp;account&nbsp;can borrow books from the general collection. Please speak with AVRC staff to create a Library account. The default loan period is 30 days with up to 2 renewals.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Staff and students outside SSAC<\/strong> may be permitted to borrow books on a case-by-case basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"borrowing-films-blu-rays-dvds\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Borrowing films (Blu-rays, DVDs)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Film Studies instructors\/faculty<\/strong> can borrow films at will. New faculty and instructors are encouraged to ask AVRC staff for help with finding and retrieving material.&nbsp;Extensions may be arranged if necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">SSAC instructors\/faculty<\/strong> may borrow films in accordance with the above policies and procedures and must agree to the prompt return of material should it be needed by a Film Studies colleague.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Upper-year students<\/strong> who are part of the Art &amp; Architectural History, Film Studies, Music, or Cultural Mediations undergrad programs or one of SSAC&#8217;s MA programs may borrow films for course assignments, research, or seminar presentation purposes. Students must first meet with an AVRC staff member to make a Library account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Students<\/strong> not meeting these criteria may be permitted to borrow films on a case-by-case basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Older film formats (e.g. VHS, laser disc, 16mm) are to be consulted on site by appointment only. Special arrangements may also be made to reserve older formats for screening in class or for special lectures\/events.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"borrowing-slides\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Borrowing slides<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Art &amp; Architectural History instructors\/faculty<\/strong> can borrow slides from the legacy collection at will, using red cards with the borrower\u2019s initials to mark the place of the slide in the drawers. There is no due date for this material, though instructors\/faculty are strongly encouraged to return slides once they are no longer needed. New faculty and contract instructors are encouraged to ask AVRC staff for help with finding and retrieving slides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">SSAC<\/strong> <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">and<\/strong> <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">University instructors\/faculty<\/strong> can borrow slides from the legacy collection. Visitor red cards with the borrower\u2019s initials need to be placed in the drawers to mark the borrowed slide(s). A&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/avrc\/wp-content\/uploads\/Art-History-Slide-Loan-PDF.pdf\">Slide Loan Form<\/a>&nbsp;must be filled out in full with all relevant contact information and a due date noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Students, alumni<\/strong> <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">and<\/strong> <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">members of the&nbsp;general public<\/strong>&nbsp;are welcome to work with slides in&nbsp;the AVRC (<strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">460 SP<\/strong>) at any time during regular hours of operation. Red cards need to be placed in the drawers to mark the&nbsp;place of the&nbsp;removed&nbsp;slide(s).&nbsp;A&nbsp;selection of slides&nbsp;for ongoing consultation&nbsp;may also be set aside.
