Research Initiative on “Pothole Repair” & “Winter Road Maintenance” for St. John’s

�� meets with a team from the Department of Public Works of City of St. John’s and delivers a presentation on “Sustainable Pavements and��Winter Road Maintenance for Newfoundland” on March 23, 2018.

Dr Carlos Bazan, a professor of civil engineering at Memorial and��PhD student also attend and contribute to the meeting and technical discussion that has led to initiating a collaborative research project on “Investigation and Development of Improved Asphalt Mixture Specification for Pothole Repair” and “Sustainable Winter Road Maintenance” with the City.

Memorial Pavement Research Group: 1st Group Meeting

On Thursday, March 8th, 2018, ARTEL had its first group meeting in the S.J. Carew building at Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN). This was attended by��, and by his three Ph.D. students, one master’s student via Skype, and three co-op students.

The discussion was led by Dr. Hossain concerning the goals of ARTEL and the current research projects and initiatives. Several goals and main research projects with an emphasis��on cutting-edge research topics such as climate change impact, bio-binder, and nano-materials, life cycle analysis were discussed as well as side projects that could be implemented in the future concerning asphalt construction, rehabilitation, and pavement-vehicle interactions.

These topics are being looked into by a group with a myriad of background disciplines from the pavement, process, mechanical, and computer engineering, pooling and exchanging their knowledge. Each member had the chance to discuss their personal research projects, their development so far, and their visions for the project in the future.

The next meeting is expected to take place within the next two weeks.

Recycling Waste Tire of Newfoundland

Dr. Andy Fisher and meet with Waste Tire Program team members of Multi-Materials Stewardship Board (MMSB) of Newfoundland and Labrador on��March 7, 2018. A two-hour session was well spent to explore and brainstorm different local application options, and subsequent research projects or pilot projects for Waste Tires of Newfoundland. Note that this provincial crown agency receives approximately 500,000 waste tire each year.

Infrastructure Canada: Smart Cities Challenge

Dr. Carlos Bazan, Dr. Noori Saady and from the Department of Civil Engineering meet the City of Mt. Pearl Infrastructure Management on March 5, 2018. The meeting was held to brainstorm and formulate research ideas for addressing the research proposal call by the Infrastructure Canada agency of Federal Government of Canada.
