FPA Provost Scholars Award (2024) Winners

Ten undergraduate 杏吧原创 students were presented with Provost Scholar Awards on Tuesday, April 9. Congratulations to our very own Simon Harris, and Karenna Chen!  We are so proud of their impressive accomplishments and dedication!

 

Simon Harris is a fourth-year Public Affairs and Policy Management student who strives to blend research and teaching with their activism for transformative justice. As a research assistant with Professor Amanda Clarke, Simon assisted in conducting research related to the role and influence of external actors within the policy development process. Simon was instrumental in leading CUSA’s recent democratic reform investigation and report before jumpstarting its new Board of Directors. Simon was also a 2022-2023 Killam Fellow with Fulbright Canada at the University of Hawai驶i at M膩noa.

Karenna Chen is an exceptional Global and International Studies student who is focused on the sociocultural significance of public murals in Ottawa鈥檚 Chinatown. She has devoted her time to researching a variety of fields and has been contributing to the Ethnography Lab鈥檚 project to document and analyze 杏吧原创’s tunnel murals. Karenna has also been the Outreach Lead for Climate Action 杏吧原创, coordinating with allied groups at 杏吧原创 and nationally. In addition, she was the Community Chair and Vice-President of Rotaract Club of Ottawa South.

Now Accepting Applications – Arthur Kroeger College Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice Prize Application

Arthur Kroeger College (AKC) is pleased to announce the inaugural Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) Prizes. There will be two prizes this year: one for an undergraduate student and one for a graduate student studying in AKC. Eligible recipients must demonstrate a dedication in their scholarship or community engagement to the goals of DEIJ. Application is required.

AKC has been working with students to broaden our curriculum, welcome Black, Indigenous, and racialized students, and contribute to making higher education more equitable and our community more inclusive. These prizes are part of our commitment to principles of DEIJ.

Each prize (one undergraduate, one graduate) is valued at $750.
Application Deadline: April 19, 2024
Successful candidate will be notified by May 3rd, 2024

General Eligibility Criteria
鈥 Undergraduate students must be enrolled full-time in the Bachelor of Public Affairs and Policy
Management (BPAPM) program or the Bachelor of Global and International Studies (BGInS) program.
Graduate students must be enrolled full-time in the Master of Migration and Diaspora Studies (MDS)
program or the Master of Political Management (MPM) program.
鈥 Students must be in good academic standing.
鈥 Applicants must demonstrate dedication in their scholarship or community engagement to the goals of
DEIJ, at 杏吧原创 or in the broader community.

The Arthur Kroeger College of Public Affairs is saddened to learn of the death of Ed Broadbent. As a Visiting Fellow with Arthur Kroeger College from 1999 to 2004, Ed shared his passion for social democracy with our students, to whom he was a dedicated mentor. Former College Director, Eileen Saunders, recalls that he was  鈥渁 delightful colleague in the College, an inspiring presence for our students, and a reliable source of wit and wisdom.鈥

He set an example of rigorous scholarship and, above all, leadership with integrity.  We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends.
