Project Summary<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The National Housing Strategy (NHS)<\/a> is a 10-year, $82 billion federal plan launched in 2017 to ensure more people living in Canada have access to safe, affordable, and inclusive housing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Safe and Affordable Place to Call Home is a large 杏吧原创-led research study that brings together academic researchers from across the Social Sciences, Engineering, Architecture, Industrial Design, Medicine, and Health Sciences to analyze the outcomes of the NHS for the most vulnerable people across Canada. The research team will critically examine the three major funding vehicles of the NHS (National Housing Co-Investment Fund, Canada Community Housing Initiative, and Canada Housing Benefit), assess the effectiveness of the NHS goal to operationalize a rights-based approach to housing for all people living in Canada, explore meaningful alternatives to the existing models of affordable housing, and generate research to support the Indigenous Housing strategy and Focus on Northern Housing initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taking a longitudinal approach that follows people\u2019s experiences over time, the research team will employ statistical, case study, participatory, technological, and qualitative methods in five provinces (Ontario, Saskatchewan, Quebec, Nova Scotia, and Alberta) and Canada\u2019s North.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Accessibility Institute will lead the accessibility component of this multi-focal study, including analysis of select public and non-profit housing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Funding<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This project is funded by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC)<\/a>, in partnership with the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)<\/a>, with a total budget of $4.8 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
